Good-Guys and GrandDad
Wouldn’t you know it, GrandDad headed to the Good-Guys Car show in Pleasanton, CA last weekend. The Good-Guys Rod and Customs Organization, www.good-guys.com, is the best national Hot Rod Club in the country. They have events all over the country.
The Good-Guys events are well organized and attract the best “car people” from all over. No Yahoos crawling all over your car, just car respecting folks. As a club member you can enter your car in the show for $45.00. That includes entry for your car, tickets for 2 people for all three days. You also get a souvenir mug, free drawing tickets for car products, a sample of window cleaner or car wax.
On Saturday you can enter your vehicle in the special classes for awards. You have to get up real early and get to the show before 7am. The guys then park you in special sections based on how you want your vehicle to be judged.
Of course GrandDad’s Red Truck gets entered in the “Trick Truck” coral. It is a 1957 Chevy Truck 3100 that looks pretty “stock” from the outside. As soon as you open the hood you can see that it has a brand new LS3 (corvette) engine (e-ROD) with a modern 4L70E transmission. You might also notice the independent front suspension with the 4-Bar rear suspension. It is a real smooth driver that gets 20 mpg highway in spite of 430 hp.
GrandDad loves driving this truck and after a couple hours at a car show he has to crank it up and drive around some. Since the Good-Guys show has 3000 cars they let you drive your truck around the show and look at all the cars. Sure beats those indoor shows where the cars are trailered in and are never driven.
The Good-Guys judges like GrandDad’s Red Truck too. This weekend they approached GrandDad and asked to park it in the “winner’s circle” for Sunday.
GrandDad appreciates the award and knows the fine folks at Livermore church of Christ are happy to swing by and pick you up for church on Sunday if you have to leave your truck at the show. They live by “Love God and Love your neighbor as yourself”.
Until next time Love God and love our neighbors in Huston, TX and the Gulf Coast.
